Inside Toronto’s confusing, chaotic, wide-open mayoral race

April 19, 2023
|
Joe Fish

There are currently almost 50 candidates running to become Toronto's next mayor. And there's no incumbent, since John Tory resigned in a scandal in February. That means anyone's got a shot, and at this point nobody can say for certain how this will shake out.

The last time a Toronto mayoral race was this wide open, the city got Rob Ford. This time the cast of characters spans the entire political spectrum, from bleeding heart liberals to hard-ass former cops. So who's in the race? Who might join them? Who's got a shot? And what issues will decide the fate of Canada's largest city?
