The opioid crisis is killing more and more people in Canada every day. In Toronto recently, 7 people died over a 12-day span from suspected overdoses, prompting harm reduction activists to open an unsanctioned overdose prevention site. This comes a week after the Ontario government announced a pause on these facilities, while it decides if they "have merit". Travis Lupick is a Vancouver based journalist, and author of Fighting for Space: How a Group of Drug Users Transformed One City's Struggle with Addiction. He tells us how safe injection sites have curbed the number of overdose deaths in British Columbia, and how important they are for the rest of the country.
