Who feels at home in Canada’s wilderness?

February 15, 2019
|
Claire Brassard

The image of Canada is wrapped together with the wilderness—from lush forests to miles of prairies to Prime Ministers who grew up taking canoe trips. But not everyone grows up feeling close to nature. Sometimes that's due to location, sometimes it's a lack of resources. And sometimes it's because you've never really felt welcome there.

Our guest today grew up as a young Black man in Scarborough and felt divorced from the natural wonder of Canada until he attended a rural school. In an effort to change that, he embarked on a journey that's quintessentially Canadian—a cycling trip from coast to coast. So what's a trip across Canada on a bicycle like when you're Black?
